Prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane
Matthew 26:36-46 (NKJV)
36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.”
37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.
38 Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death.Stay here and watch with Me.”
39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”
40 Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour?
41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
42 Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.”
43 And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.
44 So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
45 Then He came to His disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.
46 Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.”
Hour of Prayer Request
In Matthew 26:36-46, Yahushua (Jesus) came to the Garden of Gethsemane with His disciples after celebrating the feast of Passover and asked them to wait while He went to pray. He took with Him Peter, James and John and said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful (Perilypos), even unto death. Stay here and watch with Me." Perilypos in Greek means surrounded by sorrow on all sides. It is sorrow of the highest degree, and He entered into this level of sorrow as a result of the world's sins being placed on Him. Jesus asked His three disciples to watch and pray with Him because of their level of intimacy. By selecting them, He offered them a chance to enter into His sufferings, as well as into His joy, but they fell asleep.
We know the judgments that God is and will use to purify this world and bring cold hearts back to Him are very serious, and many will die suddenly. It is Father's request that His children 'watch and pray with Him' 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the lost, misguided, and deceived, as well as for those who are being martyred for their faith, and those who will die in their sins. It is through our prayers that His hand of mercy and grace is extended to those who have not yet come home to His heart.
We are asking all of our brothers and sisters globally to commit to praying for 1 hour a week at the same time every week. Please review the calendar listed on the right side of the blog and choose a day of the week and hour that you will be available consistently.
Our goal is to fill every hour so that God is not 'praying in the garden alone.' Once you have made a choice, please e-mail us your day and hour at meetmeinthegarden4prayer@gmail.com. If you have friends or family you know who can be counted on to join Father in prayer for one hour, will you please share the request with them?
We are calling this request: MEET ME IN THE GARDEN - DEVOTE YOUR PRAYER TIME TO FATHER HERE over on the right hand side of the blog.
Please help us to fulfill this important request. We understand that time is so precious, and we appreciate all of your support in answering the call to pray and be more intimate with Our Savior.
Shalom and God Bless
Julie
